The hard message
Complaints, apologies, refunds, saying no — AI as a rehearsal partner, not a ghostwriter.
The lesson
For messages with stakes, AI's best role is rehearsal: draft it angry, then ask AI to make it firm-but-fair; role-play the reply you're dreading; find the sentence you'll regret before you send it.
Try it — 60 seconds
I need to [complain / apologize / say no] to [person] about [situation]. Draft it firm but kind. Then play the other person and give me their most likely reply.
Copy it into ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini — whichever you already use. Fill in the brackets with your real life.
Watch out
Apologies and condolences need the most you and the least AI. Use it to organize thoughts, not to outsource sincerity.
